History of our Church

Praise and Worship Outreach Tabernacle Inc., have stamped their imprints on Linden Boulevard in Cambria Heights. We have transitioned from a bible study and prayer meeting in the home of Sis. Lillieth Smith. On July 14, 2002 worship service began; September 1, 2002 the first Holy Communion Service was held, Sunday School began and on December 1, 2002, we celebrated our Thanksgiving Service giving thanks to the Almighty for granting us favor and for keeping the members together. Our first Watch Night was spent worshipping in the basement seeking the will of God.

In 2003 we made our transition to the Pastor’s home for Sunday and mid-week services. July 14, 2003 we celebrated our first anniversary being together and in 2005 we had our first christening. Through it all we continued to fast and pray for a larger place to worship.

Our prayers were answered and God blessed us with a new edifice located at 223-03 Linden Boulevard. The church membership continues to grow. Praise and Worship Outreach Tabernacle has impacted the lives of the members through its teaching and preaching of God’s word. On August 23, 2015 we were honored to have our first Ordination and Anointing Service. Installed were Deacons, Ministers, Elder, Altar Workers, Evangelist, Technicians, Secretary and Administrator. The Right Hand of Fellowship were given, Bishop Joel Strachan, Elder Ered Sutton, Sis. Alistene Sutton, Sis. Thelma Levy and Sis. Juliet Anderson. On November 29, 2015 we had our annual baptism where Brothers Michael Francis, Sr., Mark Stewart, Shakeem White Ainsley Lewis, Sisters Carmen Stewart, and Allet Jones-Gowie.

In October 2014 we accomplished the following: installation of monitors, replaced the pews with chairs, donated the old organ, repainted the church and its foyer. The birth of the Men’s Ministry. On March 8, 2016 we brought Praise and Worship Outreach Tabernacle to the new age by installing the internet and March 20, 2016 the launching of the Women’s Ministry was birth.

Praise and Worship Outreach Tabernacle have continued to steadfastly commit themselves by worshipping God. Since its birth, we have witnessed the sworn in and challenges of the first Black President, Barak Obama of the United States and the changes of life style where congress has passed the law allowing same sex marriage. Through it all we have triumphed because of God’s bountiful Grace and Love for His Church. Regardless of the time, place and political views in Praise and Worship Outreach Tabernacle history, we as members can testify that God is the same yesterday, today and forever.

On May 14, 2016 we began our church anniversary celebration by having a banquet and as a souvenir by doing a commemorative journal. On May 29, 2016 at 5 P.M. we will be celebrating our 10th Church Anniversary Service by giving thanks and praised to God the Father who has brought us from a mighty long way with our beloved Pastor, the Right Reverend Walter Sterling.

“We’ve come a long way, Lord, a mighty long way
We’ve borne our burdens in the heat of the day
But we know the Lord has made the way
We’ve come a long way, Lord, a mighty long way
We’ve been in the valley and prayed night and day
And we know the Lord has made the way
We’ve had trials each and ev’ry day
But we know the Lord has made the way”
